Social Security Administration Imposter Reports & Reviews (447)

- Boise, ID, USA

The voicemail began with a man supposedly from Social Security, agent #SS89165. Something had happened with my Social Security number and, if I didn't respond by calling the 774-567-0179 number I would be subject to being arrested and put in jail. I had heard about various Social Security scams on NBC Nightly News last night (Jan 2, 2019), and I also know Social Security doesn't call people but writes to them, so I ignored him.

- Burkburnett, TX, USA

I received a voicemail stating that there was fraudulent activity with my social security number. They left the phone number 832-426-2495 to call back. I called knowing it wasnt right. The person answered the phone stating they were part of the social security administration, they asked me for my social security number, in which I refused. The person then proceeded to tell me I have to give it to them or they cannot remove the activity used on my identity. I told them that they were a scammer and they told me and please excuse my language, "dont *** say that word." I continued to tell them that I was reporting them and asked for their name, which they refused to provide and hung up on me. I have saved the partial voicemail that I received from the summer.

- Santa Monica, CA, USA

They called with a call back number saying there was social security fraud against my account in San Antonio Texas and asked for my DOB + SS #. He said if I wouldn't give it to him that he would send my file to the FBI and I would go to jail for 30 years. When I asked what it was in regards to he said I don't know, "drugs, and opening 10 bank accounts". He said his name was Frank Johnson. It was very noisy and sounded like a call center in the background. He spoke to someone else in another language too that wasnt a common language (I know Spanish) which would have been his language if he was from San Antonio as he said.

- Nampa, ID, USA

Caller leaves voice mail saying my Social Security account has been compromised and there has been suspicious activity noted. They claim my account will be closed unless I call. I call and the connection transferred 3 times. A man with a Indian accent answers and ask for my name. I start asking questions and he hangs up.

- Marrero, LA, USA

The number has called at least 10 times from 7:00 am to 1:30pm. Voicemail says criminal activity against my SS number and SS number will be suspended. Asks you to call the same number back to resolve the issue. I blocked the number but it is still getting through.

- Orchard Park, NY, USA

Robo call saying my SSN had been compromised. "Officer Adams" with an India accent hung up when I showed suspicion.

- Norfolk, VA, USA

Received a call from a fake Social Security Administration. An authentic and identical looking toll-free number to the Social Security Administration showed up on my caller id, so thought it was the real thing. The caller said that they detected fraudulent activity on my account and suspended my social security number. They then proceeded to ask for credit card information, SSN and other sensitive data, which I refused to give them. I went to the local Social Security office and they told me that it was a scam. They had no record of suspension and fraud on my account.

- Garland, TX, USA

They call pretending to be from the social Security Administration and ask you to press # to speak with an SS officer then they threat your SS number will be blocked permanently if you hang up...!

- Studio City, CA, USA

This caller represented themselves as the Social Security Administration. They accent was clearly of Indian decent.

They requested my name, address, phone and email.

Robo call that said “HELLO we have been trying to reach you this call is officially a final notice from S.S.A. Social Security Administration this call is to inform you that we have got an order to suspend your socials on immediate basis because we have found suspicious and fraudulent activities on your social to get more information about this case file please call immediately on our department number 718-304-5379."

This call was from Officer Mike who said I could be arrested unless I called the SSA number for resolution.

SCAM SCAM SCAM

- Dodge City, KS, USA

This number called my cell phone number leaving a voicemail informing legal actions on my Social Security Number. I called the number from a landline and the person that answered had a strange accent and stated he was Officer Sam from the Social Security Administration. I told him I didn't believe he was who he says or that he's really calling from where he says he's calling from. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he said ple[censored]d. The call ended after that.

- New Port Richey, FL, USA

Phone call from Social Security Administration New Port Richey, FL as it appeared across my iPhone screen. This is how I identify it in my iPhone contacts. I answered then there was a slight pause. An ominous automated voice said “Your Social Security account has been suspended due to suspicious illegal activity. Press 1 to speak to an agent.” I immediately hung up and looked at the phone number displayed in my Recent Calls. The number was presented exactly as I have the Social Security Office listing in my Contacts list. It included both the local New Port Richey, FL and the main phone number for the Social Security Administration. I called the New Port Richey Office but they were closed because it’s Black Friday. Then I called the Main SSA number but there was an hour wait on hold. I hung up. 4-1/2 hours later I received another call from the New Port Richey number. I did not answer. I blocked the caller, which unfortunately includes both of the SSA phone numbers I have listed in my Contacts.

My SO, received call on Nov 21 2018. Claimed her SSI had problems and he needed more information. I heard her talking and check to see what was going on. Knowing that SSA does not call you, they use USPS, told her to hang up.

Voice mail, Just to notify you that we have ordered the stand your social on immediate basis or social(?) has been sounds(?) suspicious for some illegal activity. It's very time sensitive and urgent I do hear back from you before we proceed futher with your suspension of you social and assets. My direct call back number is 224-836-5430

I received a call from an Officer Austin. He stated that I had open warrants for money laundering and drug trafficking. He started asking personal information like my address and then for my social security number. I advised him that I needed to contact my local SS office and hung up.

- Seattle, WA, USA

I received an automated call claiming to be from the Social Security Administration on a Saturday morning. (First red flag: government agency calling on a Saturday? Right.) The call claimed my “Social” had been compromised by illegal activity and I needed to speak with someone immediately to protect my “Social” and my financial assets. (Red flag number two: the SSA would never refer to itself as your “Social.”)

At that point I hung up. I have better things to do on my Saturday morning than talk to scammers.

I got a voicemail from someone claiming to be from the DEA, Homeland Security and Social Security Administration claiming that I needed to call them right away. I called and they asked me for the "time that I got my phone call". I told them the time then they asked for my name. I did not give any of my personal information. They would not tell me what they were calling about and I hung up. The gentleman had a foreign accent. I still have the recorded voicemail on my cell phone. Note my phone number area code is from california but i live in Ohio.

Consumer received a voicemail saying that is a fraudulent activities and is going to be a legal action and you need to call us back right away.

- Richardson, TX, USA

Received an automated call showing from Dallas Texas stating my social security number was being suspended due to numerous fraudulent activity. When i returned the call, they had my full name and requested my social security number. The male voice was of East Indian decent.
