I am in the states with my family from another country and I received a call today from a woman with a English accent claiming to be from the Social Security Administration office. Not aware of the scams on the phones or else, (no TV's, computers or on any social media) I answered this call and in fear gave the caller my name and social security number. After I did it they hung up on my. I immediately went to the SS office in my city and they helped me by giving me several numbers to call to help me with this issue. The number that called me was 877-835-7952.

I know I made a mistake was in fear since I didn't know they could call me. Since I am don't have a computer my neighbor reported this for me.

They first called me warning me that if I didn't call them back that I would be prosecuted for a crime. When I called them back they claimed that My social security number was used in a truck rental in Texas (I have never been there). After working me in a panic I was tricked into giving them a ton of personal information (banking, social security number, cars owned) then after convincing me I would be reimbursed by the government tricked me into giving them a prepaid card with money on it. they never allowed me off the phone line the whole time (threatening that the crimes in Texas would fall on me if I didn't clear my name) as they did this.

Call starts out automated stating my social security number has been suspended or frozen. Please press 2 to speak to someone. I pressed 2 knowing that it was a scam. Man answered with heavy accent said yes this is social security. I said yea my number is suspended? He said oh wait hold on please, (I don't think he expected a call in) then he came back and said yes this is the social security administration and your number has been suspended yes. I need you to verify.... And i stopped him right there and said I know for a fact that you are not who you say you are and..... he cut me off and knew my entire name and kept asking me my name cutting me off from stating that social security does not operate that way. Finally he said man, i said what! He said are you so and so, i denied it and said no. He hung up. I tried to call back the number and it said the Verizon wireless customer you are calling cannot be reached at this time. These people are backing into Verizon wireless databases and calling potential people that they think may give up their info. If they happen to be receiving social security or something similar.
