they started the conversation with "can you hear me?" to get me to say yes

- Spotsylvania, VA, USA

Called and asked 'Can you hear me?'

Received call asking if I could hear them and thanks to BBB news report I just hung up.

can you hear me now

- Henrico, VA, USA

the caller stated my first name, which he correctly knew, but stated as a question, perhaps to get me to say "yes". I thought this could be a variation on the "can you hear me?" scam, so I immediately hung up without saying anything. the phone number is a different area code than mine, and I did not recognize the number. I have been receiving calls for the last several days from this same number with no messages left, but today was the first time I answered the call.

Contacted and announced this was a prize and he was on a recorded line. Then proceeded to ask (about 5 times) if I could hear him and other questions with a yes or no answer. I did not bite into his questioning as I had recently heard about the YES scam on a recorded line that caused people to receive items they did not want or have money taken from them on false recorded calls.

Caller said he was calling about warranty issues on vehicle and then said "Can you hear me".

I did not say anything and immediately hung up. I heard about this in newspaper and am reporting it as requested.

Relates to the ScamPulse.com warning about scams with caller asking, "Can you hear me?" According to a ScamPulse.com article in my local paper, a "yes" response may be recorded for nefarious purposes. The article said to report the number the scammer is calling from at bbb.org/scamtracker. The number the scammer called from on 2/6/17 was 804-414-0670. I have received 2-3 of these calls on my home phone per week for about a month.

- Lakewood, OH, USA

I received a call on my home phone today. My caller ID showed only a seven digit phone number 810-5868 with Maple Hts. I'm fairly certain it was a recording. Super high tech automated system. When I said hello. A nice sweet voice identified herself as Emily. She said you stayed at one of our resorts before and then something like we are ready to give you a seventy five percent discount. Then there was a long pause. She asked Can you hear me and I'm sorry I'm having trouble with my headset. I said yes. I'm very concerned. They got hello and yes out of me I called the phone number back. It rings and states you cannot get into this conference. It was something like that.
