Caller ID said Telemarketer.
Both foreign accents. I couldn't catch the names and could barely understand the first guy.
They said they were from the Cardiac Test Center or something like that. Wanted to send me a cardiac test kit covered by Medicare (no cost to me), but needed to verify that at least two people in my family (me, two other blood relatives) have a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or some other heart problem.
They kept asking me about my own history and family members going back to grandparents.
I told them I've been diagnosed with slightly high blood pressure and cholesterol, neither serious enough for me to be prescribed medication.
I told them my brother had some kind of heart problem, but I'm not sure what. They did their best to get me to say one of the aforementioned conditions.
They asked about uncles and other family members.
Somewhere along the way, they asked about personal or family history of cancer. I told them my mother died of it, but that didn't seem to qualify me. The language barrier was a problem at that point.
I finally said my father died from a stroke and that seemed to qualify me.
At that point, they verified my address - they already had it.
Then they asked for info off my Medicare card and I hung up.
They were so insistent on getting me to say that two family members had heart problems that my guess is they would actually submit a claim for the test kit. If it was simply a ruse to convince me they were legit, they wouldn't have been so persistent.
I asked what I would do with the kit and the guy explained I would take a swab from my cheek and (I think he said) send it to them and they would produce a report for my doctor describing my propensity for heart problems.
