Geek Squad Imposter/Spoof Reports & Reviews (345)

Scammer sent me an email to notify me of an AUTOMATIC SUBSCRIPTION RENEWAL of $249.99 for a Best Buy order. To cancel, call this number..... After calling they have to download the Cancellation / Refund form.... Then they want you to Go To your Online Banking to accept the Refund.....(Didn't Do It), so they became Iriate and nasty..... PHISING FOR INFORMATION !!!!

I Called Best Buy directly and they DiD NOT have any such Refund / ORDER .....

This is a scam. They are trying to collect personal information based on an invoice for a transaction that was never made.

This is what message stated:

Thank you for shopping with GEEK-SQUAD. Your order for total security worth 348.00 USD is confirmed. To modify or cancel

the order call +1 814 299 5213

I received an email From Geek Squad saying they charged direct debit for 399.99 for renewal of services. I never requested anything from them. When I called the number they said that the only way I can receive the cancelation email was to log on to my computer. I told them that I wasn’t going to do that and said I thought it was a scam.

I have the email but wasn’t able to load the image

Received an email from Geek Squad saying that my annual membership has been renewed and that $400.00 was being billed to my credit card. I called the toll free number and when I advised that I never had Geek Squad and that I do not own a laptop and was hung up on. I called back again and was advised that the call was being recorded by the ScamPulse.com and I would be refunded.

I was notified email address had been compromised. I have received various emails like the one attached. Typically from Best Buy and it's affiliates.

The email said I could cancel so I called that is when they said they could take it off. Then they went on my computer and did stuff and refunded my money but when I tried to put amount in they said they would do $200 back so I tried typing in 200 but it keep going back and then finally it or they did 2000 and then transferred it to my banking so now they said I owed them 1800 so I had to go get a gift card to pay them back. So I ran to target which was a 45 min drive and the stayed on line the whole time. Even after i got the gift card they said go home right away but on way home I got thinking when I got back I stopped at my bank to see if that 2000 was in my checking and it wasn’t so then I knew I was scammed. Just wondering if you could see about getting my money back? The person called me from this number 1-904-530-1341 it says Yulee,FL

ScamPulse.com Western NC, 9719 North East Parkway, Matthews; NC28105. Ph=407-729-1168 or 704-927-8611

This is a bogus email and charge. I am forwarding to the BBB, NC Attorneys’ General, and my attorneys’ office. DO NOT CHARGE ME!

I have no intentional contact with this company. I am an 81 year old, senior citizen, and protected by laws against fraud & exploration. I will pursue you to my fullest ability.

Check the Details:

Total Amount: $349.99

That my IP address has been compromised and someone from IHIO used my name for this subscription

Not certain they are based out of Vermont but the phone number given is registered there.

I hope this helps get these dirt bags caught!! Was an older male with Indian accent (Not Native American)

He asked for invoice information and then for my details to confirm invoice was correct, this was my red flag that they were not legit since they kept asking to confirm personal details. Unfortunately I had already given them my full name.. Please catch them!!

I received an email thanking me for my auto renewal in the amount of $325. Nowhere in the email did it state what company or product was being renewed. I called the customer service number shown on the email, the phone answered by a man with a southwest Asian accent and multiple conversations could be heard in the background, all were men with southwest Asian accents. I asked what was being renewed and he stated the virus protection program I put on my computer. I have a brand new Apple desktop that has not been altered since it left the factor. I asked him what was the brand name of the software, he said he didn't know but he would walk me through removing it if I didn't want to renew it. I informed that I know how to remove programs from my computer if he would just give me the name of the program. He refused to give me the name of the program and told me to never call this number AGAIN!

I called the number and said to cancel. The person informed me that I needed to log in to cancel the subscription and tried to direct me to a site. I refused and said I believed this to be a scam and would not go to any site, and that he needed to cancel. He said it would not be canceled and hung up.

It was clearly a scam, I have never received any support from this organization. They spoke very poor English and I could hear others in the background talking.

Issue description & tactics used by the scammer:

I received an email from someone named ‘Warold Smith’ on 6/1/22 @ 9:26 am, allegedly representing Best Buy’s ‘Geek Squad’ protection plan, thanking me for placing my order with Geek Services – Best Buy, which was a $480.11 payment for 2-years of Geek Squad Protection Plan services. The email appeared in my inbox as a receipt from Warold Smith with no reference to a Geek Squad website. The email was marked as a receipt. Upon opening the receipt, I found no reference to my name or any other personally identifying information, only that it was sent from Best Buy’s Geek Squad Technical Support. When I opened the email, it requested me to call back at my earliest convenience If I had any questions at 1-803 761-7663 to confirm receipt of this email, which I have not complied.

General Statement::

I would never contact them for any computing issues, as I have a degree & background in Information Technology and perform my own cyber investigation/problem resolution on the IT gear I own.

My Action:

I verified that no funds were debited against my bank account.

Scammer tactics:

This scam appears to be a ‘warm-fraud’ attempt requesting me to call the phone number shown after I opened the email. During this requested phone call, I believe they would attempt to access my banking information via social engineering, no doubt claiming they do not have the necessary access or visibility to make the charge for 2-years Protection Plan to go through. I anticipate being expected to provide personally identifying information during that phone call to facilitate the Protection Plan services debt of $480.11 to be charged to my account. Remember, this is an unsolicited email. I did not contract Geek Squad for any Protection Plan services, nor would I.
