Internal Revenue Service IRS - IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (1072)

Called and said my taxes were filed incorrectly for the last 6 years and there was an active arrest warrant for me. That if I hung up the police would be at my door and I could Spend 5 years in prison. Told me the amount I supposedly owed.

- Amarillo, TX, USA

I got a call from this number alleging that it was the IRS and that if I didn't return the call in 24 hours then I would be arrested by the local authorities.

I received a phone call from the phone number listed above, 315-888-0397, which had me very alarmed at first. They said they had not heard from me in 6 months and was going to turn me in for intentional fraud and a lawsuit would be filed with the government. I called the number back, which looked nothing like a number from the IRS and when I finally got an answer and started talking they hung up so I tried calling a few more times and call wouldn't go through or they continued to hang up. I then looked the number up online and found out that it is a scam. I felt I should report this number to you so others can be aware of this scam.

IRS scam - wanted money, clearly in a call center and not gov.

- Caldwell, ID, USA

3 phone calls today from 219 215 2280 left voice mail saying there was a warrant out for my arrest. I called them back and I called them on the carpet about the scam. The man sounded Asian and proceeded to cuss me out and call me by my first and last name. He used very foul language and I said I am going to report you and get you stopped and he then threaten me. He said he would get all my personal information and steal my money.

- Stafford, VA, USA

The caller identified themselves as an IRS representative and even gave a badge number. They threatened to contact the “cops” and have me arrested.

Calls come in daily from an automated voice telling to call back because an arrest warrant has been issued due to failure to pay taxes. They call all the time. The way the irs notifies you of owing money is only by certified mail, never by phone. Nor would they be having immigrants calling from what sounds like a sweat shop.

A voicemail was left with the caller claiming to be from the IRS. If he didn’t hear from us or our attorney he said, “all I can do is wish you good luck as the situation unfolds on you.”

People call telling you that they are the IRS and give a number for you to call so you can pay what is due. This happened to my elder mother. Thank goodness she was not quick enough to write the number down they gave her to call. When I called my mother, I told her it's a scam, the IRS will NEVER call. They send letters.

A co-worker of mine went so far to take off from work and go straight to the bank and withdraw the money that he was told was due. He told the bank teller that he was told to then put the money on an Apple gift card. The teller told him it's a scam. He then drove to the IRS, and was told the same thing.

- Spokane, WA, USA

Scammer told me she could help with the loan I submitted for IRS taxes owing. Caller does not leave voice messages, but calls several times a day.

I received two scam phone messages today from "818-309-1017" allegedly from "Lisa Anderson of the IRS". When Googling the phone number, several similar scam reports were provided by other individuals. Here is a text of the recording...

"There is a lawsuit filed under your name. An arrest warrant has been issued. To get more more information about this case file give call us back at 818-309-1017. I repeat 818-309-1017."

- Milwaukee, WI, USA

I received a call from the "IRS" stating that I had not returned their calls and that they were going to issue an arrest warrant against me. I worked as an accountant and know that they do not call individuals. I hung up.

I received a voicemail saying that the IRS has been trying to contact me for the last 6month and since I didn't respond, they were going to file a lawsuit for intentional fraud for $4900. When I called the number back, they said the same thing and I asked if they where sure that they had the correct person and they had the correct last name but said it was for my dad. I told them my dad wasn't home and they hung up on me. my parents suggested reporting to ScamPulse.com because the IRS would send an official letter.

An automated message was left on our voice mail saying that warrants had been issued for our arrest, and that our personal property and accounts were being monitored due to an IRS debt. We were instructed to contact then at once.

- Renton, WA, USA

I was called stating that the IRS was suspending my social security card. The “officer” seemed to be trying to get me to say “yes” and “correct”

Consumer received phone call from someone pretending to be with IRS.

IRS supposedly calling - telling me to call back or they will arrest me.

- Frederick, MD, USA

It appeared to be a local call from a Washington, DC number so I picked up. An automated man's voice claimed to be from the IRS and instructed me to call back immediately in regard to "fraud and misconduct on your tax" he had alleged that I had committed. Absolute BS! I hung up. The following morning, the same number called and left the same msg. in my voicemail. I did not answer.

Today, my husband received a telephone call from 1-919-346-8915, telling him that the person was from the IRS and that my husband needed to send in money to pay back taxes or he would be arrested. The person said that my husband needed to borrow money from family/friends or he would be arrested. When my husband said he needed to check with his wife, the person said that the arrest warrant was for my husband only. When asked, the man said his name was "Eric Holder". When my husband told him that he wanted to record the call and he needed the man's permission, he hung up.
