Recieved an email with a confirmation number from Geek squad saying I purchased computer protection in the amount of $197 plus $5 service tax and it also stated I was enrolled in auto renewal. Contacted someone that speaks broken English and a kid screaming in the background. Told him I didn’t sign up for a damn thing for Geek squad. So he asked if I wanted to cancel! Of course I said cancel and he said ok I’ll do it and hung up.

- Fairmont, WV, USA

I received an e-mail informing me that my subscription was being automatically renewed for $249.99. I did buy a tv from Best Buy this summer, but I didn’t remember buying any service contracts. By checking online for the possibility of a Geek Squad scam, I found this site and that assured me it is a scam.

I received an invoice email this AM from Geek Squad thanking me for my purchase. My order number is: *************** in the amount of $842.72. This email (invoice) states that the products have been shipped to my address through their preferred carrier. The invoice (email) further states that my checking account / card will be charged the $842.72 within 2-3 business days.

- Hazlet, NJ, USA

Scammer sent an email referring to a transaction which didn't occur. Scammer said the transaction could only be canceled if they could access my computer.

The scam was an invoice with the heading of Geek Squad sent to me by email with the message "thank you for ordering product with us", and the invoice listed order No: ******************* The invoice listed Defender Firewall and was for $468.75 I called Discover ID Protection that I have and they told me phone number was ******************** and gave me a correct number which I will not list or call. I've received 2 invoices like this in about 6 months. I did not make this order and as far as I know the firewall isn't compatible with my type of computer. I don't want anything to do with Geek Squad and will not make contact or acknowledge them.

As of to date I don't know if the criminals got into my bank account, so I don't know if they stole anything yet.

This is the 4th notice I have had about renewing automatically my supposed account with Geek Squad. When I call the given phone number, they hang up on me as soon as I say this is a scam.

My dad got this email (typos included) and they don't even have his correct name. Please be careful.

We renewed our yearly agreement with Geek Squad. We received an email from supposedly Geek Squad stating an amount was deducted from our account and was saying they just deducted it in June. We renewed with Geek Squad around April. The amount didn't match what we paid either. We decided to call the number to see what this was all about and we also wanted to cancel because we were not in need of the service anymore. We asked to cancel and they had us download some kind of software to have the cancellation take place. They also were of India maybe Nigerian decent. And of course had American names. I told my husband that this is not a normal way to cancel something. But we continued until it got to wanting us to download a cancellation form which would give them access to our account. That is where it stopped. This guy got angry when we stopped the process. It was unbelievable. We were concerned because we did download their software but we never gave them any information. So hopefully they can not access anything.

TRYING TO CHARGE ME $249.90 FOR THEIR SERVICE. I TOLD THEM I HAVE NORTON FOR MY PROTECTION. THEY WANTED MY BANKING LOG IN TO REFUND MONEY THAT THEY HAVENT TAKEN OUT OF MY ACCT. CALLED THE BANK AND PUT AN ALERT ON MY ACCOUNT. OF COURSE THEY ARE FROM INDIA

- Seattle, WA, USA

They sent an email to my address thanking me for my business and charging me $399.51 for " Advance Geek Squad Protection". WARNING: I didn't realize at 1st because I had another real email from Geek Squad, but when my daughter and I were checking our account with the actual customer assistance we realized their email had NO Logo and a personal email address; [email protected]. I contacted Bestbuy again and they had me forward the email for investigation.

ON 6/2/21 received email claiming to be Geek Squad with bill saying I owe $299 renewal of Protection360. Never had, wanted, or ordered it. Said to call 855-527-2753 if wanted to cancel. I called "cancel, no prior service". Said they can't help cancel because they can't see when I paid last. Wanted credit card info and I said they claim I had service so they must have my info & account number. Scammer became very unprofessional and completely rude and belligerent. They sent email with supposed pdf attachment of invoice which I refused to open. When I wanted more info on them, they hung up on me. Please be aware there is a lot of similar calls and emails out there with same call back phone number claiming to be Geek Squad. There is as real company by that name but they do not handle business in this manner.

- Rancho Cucamonga, CA, USA

I received an email saying: thank you for your purchase through GeekSquad. This email is to inform you that your annual subscription with GeekSquad is renewed. It shows total invoice amount of $279.50. I know I have a Geek Squad tech support subscription through Best Buy. I called the #831-298-6198 and they were telling that in order to get a refund I need to type all kinds of commands-so I followed and then I was given a code that will lead me to a form-in that form they were asking for the name of my bank (which I gave) and realized later that this is a scam-I told the guy-since I paid by credit card just credit my account-but he wont-he still insisted that I continue-so then I told him I'm not doing it because there is something wrong and he keeps telling not to hang-up (which I did hang-up)

- Dripping Springs, TX, USA

When I called the number on the received email to deny charges, I was coerced to give them control of my computer. They proceeded to delete everything from my desktop and demanded $500.00 to restore it.

I immediately turned off my computer, deleted the app they used to connect to my computer, and disconnected from the router.

I had been working from home, and I could not certify this was not a valid claim associated with my employer.

- Cordova, TN, USA

Geek Sqad sent me a bill through my email. I have never used them. I call them and a man is asking personal information. He ask if he could get access to my computer I said no and hung up. They call back again a lady this time asking the same thing I refused. They call me back the next day the same man I just hung up. Pleas watch out they tried to get my identity.

2nd email received so far, called 800#, man with heavy foreign accent answered on giving his first name.

- Tyler, TX, USA

Received numerous calls from people stating that they were with Geek Squad and that I would be charged a subscription price of $200 if I didn't call them back. I did call them back but then they asked me to get on my computer and visit this website, which I hung up on them.
