They continually call some days more than 6 times, claiming to be internet technicians and stating my computer has a virus and want me to get in front of my computer so they can take over and fix the virus. Asking for credit card information etc.

A year ago, my husband received a pop-up ad stating that his computer was being hacked, and that he needed to call the above number. He did, and they talked him into paying them $199 for "lifetime" security services. Now, almost a year later, they have called him at least 50 times in the past few days insisting that someone has hacked into our computers. They wanted another $179 today for us to buy "web route internet security"...an anti-virus?? These people claimed to be a subsidiary of Best Buy. There IS a Geek Squad associated with Best Buy but these people are not a part of that...I went to Best Buy today and we are definitely not signed up for the real Geek Squad program.

Since Best Buy affirmed my thought that THIS "Geek Squad" is bogus, I called the above number back and told them to never call us again. Hopefully they won't.

I'm reaching out to you today in the hopes that you can stop them from preying on helpless victims in the future.

Thank you.

Consumer rec'd texts and calls from someone claiming to be from the Geek Squad stated she was owed a refund. The caller had a heavily accented voice and kept asking her to repeat herself to say yes.

Consumer received phone call from someone pretending to work with Geed Squad, saying that she had computer virus "please get on your computer so we can fix".

They called us and said someone was hacking our computer. That they were from California.

Sberry had a heavy indian accent.

She wanted access to my computer.

We wouldn't give it and she was very pushy.

They claim they are calling from geek squad.

I thought I was reaching out to Geek Squad technical Support who works thru Best Buy when I purchased a new laptop in Jan. 2016. I acquired their phone number on the internet. It turns out that they were not Geek Squad but pretending to be Geek Squad with a telephone number 800 832 5456. Two weeks after purchasing my laptop I phoned them for technical support. They told me my computer was going to crash if I didn't pay them $499 for lifetime Malware Security Software. I paid them and then they completely changed my computer. It seems just about every week I had a laptop issue, they would get on my computer remotely and "fix the problem". The last phone call to them on 4/29/16 was a security pop up issue, and they took remote access. Three hours later then completely destroyed my computer so I was not able to use it. I then walked into Best Buy to tell them Geek Squad had been working on my computer and now it doesn't work. They looked at the phone and didn't recognize the number. I then realized I had been scammed.

I was contacted by phone by "Harry" claiming to be from the computer repair service, Geek Squad, to whom I have an account with. Harry did a quick survey with me and then said that I qualify for a REFUND of my $299 service plan, due to a screw- on their sales rep's fault and a US government court order. He said the money needed to be wired into my bank account and they could not send a check to my house; they already had my address. He showed me how no one but the foreign bank that would be wiring the money to me could read my account number. I told him I had to check with my bank first and he gave me a phone # of 805-500-6555 to call back. That number is merely an answering machine. Beware!

A man called me with a middle eastern accent saying he was from geek squad and my computer was downloading malicious software. He said my number was registered with my Windows OS. It was my cell phone and I register everything to my home number. I could tell they used an auto dialer to call me. I asked him to verify my email that was registered and he could not. He told me that he was in Connecticut using an Internet phone and that is why the caller ID was blocked. I managed to get a phone number from him but he did not read it to me in the same format all Americans would. I.E. area code as fist three in a row. Then prefix as the next three, then the last 4. He read them very random. The number he gave me was 516-210-0398. When I called it back my iPhone said that was a number from Syosset, NY

I received a call from 860-951-7532 telling me that I have a virus on my computer.  They have called 4 or 5 times this week and left me nasty messages telling me that because I am not answering the phone I will get hackers. Well- spoiler alert: I don't even have a computer!

- Peoria, IL, USA

I received two calls from a CT phone number (860-885-5399 and 860-951-7532). The gentleman on the phone wanted me to get on my personal computer so he could run diagnostics on it. He explained it was much like getting a check up from a doctor as preventative maintenance. I explained I didn't have my computer with me, he said he would call me back. I called both numbers back and neither phone number was in service.
