When downloading a new Microsoft Office Suite, an alert came on the screen that an error had occurred loading the software & that I needed to call an 800 number to complete the download. After calling the number, I was told that the software could not load because of malware on my new computer. They tried to charge me $300 for an antivirus software called Webroot which they downloaded on my computer via a remote software program. I looked up ms office scams & found that this is a current scam running. I took my computer to a local repair shop & had all software wiped off my hard drive. The repair person said that they had put on malware & could access all of my data.

I keep receiving a messege asking me not to give link to anyone. And anyone asking for it is tryouts by to access my account. It says we don’t need this link to identify me. Cand then it says tap the link below. Cash does not randomly contact you.

I got a message saying that my computer had viruses. I called the 800 number & got my computer cleaned up. The charge was $300.00, which was paid by a cruise line gift card. Within days I got a call from the cruise line telling me that it was a scam and refunded my money. OK, I got my computer cleaned & my money was refunded. The problem is this "computer repair" person keeps calling me. Over the last year or so he has called me hundreds of times, I have told him not to call but he persists.

First Call they said the received a message from Microsoft about a computer problem. charged a fee to have lifetime to maintain computer>

Second time a few weeks later , tells me somebody stole my IP address $800 to provide a new one.

We received what is called a neighbor spoofing scam. They cloned a number from Livonia, NY. The caller said her name was 'Mollie' and there is a breach in my apple account.

- Cedar Rapids, IA, USA

This happened about a year ago so I will recall the details as best as I can..

I received a phone call of a recording that said someone made a purchase of an iPhone 10 for $600 using my Amazon account. I followed the prompt and was now talking to a live individual. He (East Indian man) informed me of the above 'purchase', and I had to secure my Amazon account from my computer that I make most of my Amazon purchases. I could not use my cell phone to access my account to 'secure' my account. I logged into my computer and the caller wanted me to allow them access to my laptop to clean out any viruses or phishng software. I did this and they took control of my laptop and started running their 'anti-phishing software'. As this would take some time, the caller initiated a password with me to call me back and I had to give them this password when they called me back regarding my case. He said it would take up to an hour. He called me back 20 minutes later wanting payment for continued anti-phishing protection. The prices were $200, $400 and $800. He wanted me to pay by electronic check by giving my checking account and routing number. I figured something wasn't right so I told him I didn't know where my checks were at the moment and that I would have to look. He said he would call me back in a little while to give me time to look. I never did. All this time something was 'running' in a window on my laptop. He called back a little later and I told him I couldn't find my checks. He then wanted me to send money via PayPal to a personal account. He gave me 2 or 3 PayPal links and thankfully none of them worked. During one of the times when he said he would call me back, I called Amazon directly and talked to a very nice and helpful gentleman and explained the situation and what was happening. He informed me that Amazon will NEVER call regarding an unauthorized purchase. They only email those alerts. He also checked my account and my past purchases which were all legitimate and made by me and said there was no purchase of a iPhone. He agreed that it was most likely a scam.

When the 'caller' called me back, my girlfriend happened to answer and she told him off lol. Sometimes I still get those calls but now I know better and just hang up. I closed all windows on my laptop and made an appointment at my local Best Buy to have them scour it for and phishing software and Spyware. Upon pick-up they said they didn't find anything.

Oh, one other detail... the 'caller' said that the person who made this iPhone purchase can access my laptop even when it is off and unplugged. I find that hard to believe.

I hope my story helps people out there to avoid falling victim to this scam. I was very lucky to not lose any money via the PayPal account link that was given to me, but it was scary nonetheless.

While working on my personal computer, my computer locked up and directed me to contact Apple Support at 888-351-1474. I call the number and was connected with a person who identified self as an Apple employee. Person noted that my computer was compromised and that I would need to purchase a plan for $685.00 in order to have lifetime service. Person requested my personal info including bank account and routing info. When I questioned this person re: his validity he became upset and stated "your mind it not working clearly". I allowed him to continue with his info and again questioned validity prior to providing my personal bank info. Again, he became upset with me. I stated I would not go through with the transaction. Person then told me my computer would never be accessible again unless I purchased this tech support. Again, I denied and he hung up. My computer is working just fine and I have had no further issues.

I was upswing charls schwab app and all of a sudden someone was hacking into my phone , then I seen I had a court date and I won a lot of money now it’s gone

Received a Robo Call trying to notify about about someone trying to hijack identity and stealing social security numbers and personal information through Microsoft Windows. The robo call claimed that if it was not fixed now the computer would become obsolete and compromised. It stated that if I was the one using Microsoft Windows to press 1 now to speak with a "security team." Please ignore if we have called you by mistake. Bye. The individuals calling used the LVMH Tower as their caller ID.

I got a notice on my cell cellphone saying my phone has a virus and I need to call Apple tech support for assistance. I called the number and he told me my phone had been hacked and that there were things I needed to do with his help to avoid them possibly having access to my bank accounts social media and all passwords currently on my phone. He had me download an App then “transferred@ me to a security department that would fix my issue. Another person got on the line and he told me I needed to open my banking app and he would get me a Venmo Securoty wallet to keep my money safe from these Russian Hackers. I asked if I could just go to the Apple store and have them help me with this issue because I was not comfortable doing what he was asking. He kept telling me I needed to act quickly

before I ended up with major problems. He told me neither the Apple store or TMobile would be able to help me I asked him if he worked for Apple he said yes I was panicked by the notice I received on my phone but thankfully I was not feeling confident in what these people were saying to me and did not open any of my apps for them or move money which I now realize they would now have I worry about someone else believing them and taking a huge loss

I disconnected my phone call and deleted the app they asked me to download I am still so nervous and worried about what happened and what could have happened I am positive that these people are very successful in what they are doing. Stealing peoples money and personal information and still worry that I may be at risk still just by downloading the app and speaking with them for the time I did Everyday I check all my accounts hoping nothing has been taken and worry they might have gotten some info from me and my phone that will haunt and hurt me for years I am still not confident that I will not be dealing with some kind of fallout from this experience

Within 24hrs of reporting 1st tech scam, I received a 2nd scam e-mail which I did not respond to. This one stated I had ordered Microsoft Surface Pro which I did not. They only want to have access to my laptop so I did not contact them. One thing I noticed is the e-mail does not have an official company name and there was not a Microsoft logo on the e-mail. I dislike the time spent dealing with them to assure no order was placed. These people are irritating.

- Augusta, GA, USA

This company tried to bill me $499.99 for Defender Antivirus software I did not purchase. When I called to cancel the order the man on the line was insisted he needed access to my laptop to cancel the order. I refused to give him access and he became very insistent about needing access to my laptop to cancel the order; I refused. He became irritated and hurriedly hung up the phone. I have no billing activity in my checking account; they do not have any private info or $ from me. There is no "business name" to the company only this e-mail address: [email protected], and the name:

General Manager

Carey Serfont

I hope this helps.

After getting a new ATT router, we needed to reconfigure our Echo Dot (Alexa) to work with the router. I clicked on what looked like an Amazon support link and a popup then said tech support would call and asked for phone number. Scammer tech called and talked me into giving access to computer. He asked about virus software and showed a screen of things on my computer that were compromised. I didn't realize I had been scammed until he asked for credit card to pay for virus protection. At that point I shut down. Even though we changed passwords, our Amazon account was hacked and gift cards ordered. We managed to get that order cancelled and changed credit cards. Later we found more gift cards in our Amazon cart but removed them in time. The Amazon cards in the cart were being directed to an e-mail address [email protected]. Hacker had a middle eastern accent, not uncommon for tech support, put claimed a last name like Williams. Haven't lost money yet, but attempts keep coming.

- Powder Springs, GA, USA

They called and text at the same time.

The texts read: This is in regards to inform you we are going to update your subscription and you will be charged $314.87 from your card within 24 hours , contact (818) 273-7573 to cancel subscription.

So I called,

They say they have to cancel my Norton security on my computer subscription or I will be charge. They do it by taking over your computer. They pull some information and it show the last 4 numbers and the expiration date of a credit card but no name on the card. And if it’s not right you put your credit card number and they say they would cancel it and give you a refund of $230.

This is listed as a Customer Service number to troubleshoot an Amazon Fire TV Stick device but actually tries to gain control of your computer by remote access. Something did not seem right so I hung up before giving them access.

I've been getting calls from an Indian man for the last week. He wants me to give him my account number to refund me for tech support. His number is 888-538-1765.

Received a call telling me that I had to update my bank account information with them or a $200 charge would be placed on the account. I didn't call back, I haven't had anything installed on my computer like that for the longest time. I don't know who would be calling me.

A year ago I turned on my computer and this loud siren appeared, call this number and we can take it off and provide you further protection (at 30.00 per month. They wanted a check in payment which I would not give them. I did give them a credit card. Next they called me at least 4 times a day saying they have to close the service and want to refund my money. Of course all I have to do is provide a routing number so they can deposit it directly-no way. Now they are still calling to renew my subscription, I tell them I do not want it so cancel my subscription. They tell me that in order to cancel I have to allow access to my computer-no way I say. OK he says then you will be charged 30.00 per month. I tell them I will call Chase and deny the charge. So far I have changed all my credit cards, put a fraud alert on my Experian account, changed all my passwords. I would like this snake to return to the hole he came from. Now I am expecting a bill by mail, if that happens at least I have a paper trail. and I can block the zip code (I think)
